Willow Fishing Creel

Willow Fishing Creel

Every now and then, I like to make baskets out of non-birch.

This flat-backed creel is made from two kinds of Wisconsin-harvested willow (mostly green with accents of orange) and the corners are started with a braid of hemp and dried palms.  Using a double-D shape for this framed and ribbed style of basketry, provides a large breathable pouch, ready for foraging.

A nice long leather strap w/ buckle and woven lid with buttonwood closure makes this one of a kind perfect for a fly fishing creel, mushrooming basket, or a primitive satchel.  Even after a year - this basket smells amazing!
